Experience the 47th annual “Salt Road (Shio-no-michi) Festival,” a historic trek along the ancient Chikuni Kaido, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Northern Alps’ fresh greenery and lingering snow.
This unique 3-day event takes place every year during Golden Week, with the festivities moving through three different municipalities on consecutive days.

What is the “Salt Road”?
The Chikuni Kaido, also known as the “Salt Road,” is a historic 120km trail that connects Itoigawa on the Sea of Japan coast to the Matsumoto Castle town, passing through the rugged mountains of Otari and Hakuba.
